Down By Law 

The Influnces Film Series | November 3rd | 12 PM | "Down By Law" | MS Museum of Art (Yates Community Room) | Jackson, MS 

The Influences is a six-week film series that explores the impact of one visual art form on another through screenings and discussions based on films by directors featured in the University Press of Mississippi’s Conversations with Filmmakers Series. The films screened are chosen by Mississippi artists for its influence on their artwork. The series will endeavor to raise awareness of film as a consequential form of artistic expression in the collective of visual art. 


The series continues with a pick by Mississippi Delta-based photographer Maude Schuyler Clay: Down by Law, directed by Jim Jarmusch and filmed in Mississippi.

This event is free and open to the public.

 

 Ponder Heart

The MAX Fall Film Series  | November 15th | 8 PM | "The Ponder Heart" | MS Arts + Entertainment Experience - Amphitheater | Meridian, MS 

 

The Ponder Heart (2001) is based on the novella by Eudora Welty, The Ponder Heart is set in fictional rural Clay County, Mississippi, home to the Ponders, the richest family in the county.

 

Screening will take place outdoors in The MAX amphitheater. In case of rain, films will be shown in the Multipurpose Gallery.

The Influences is a six-week film series that explores the impact of one visual art form on another through screenings and discussions based on films by directors featured in the University Press of Mississippi's Conversations with Filmmakers Series. The films screened are chosen by Mississippi artists for its influence on their artwork. The series attempts to raise awareness of film and recognize the medium as a form of artistic expression in the collective visual art.


The final installment of The Influences film series is chosen by collage artist: Baby Doll, directed by Elia Kazan and filmed in Mississippi.
